Melothria pendula, Tricosanthes japonica and Dioscorea bulbifera all sprouting on the windowsill.
Diminutive pentocz, Melothria pendula, flower. https://t.co/hBOzjr96Ep
@dogwooddays_nic @Rhizowen This one is Melothria pendula, as opposed to Melothria scabra. Rhizowen has found it tastier (unripe fruit only) and also I think more willing to overwinter here.
@HiddenCash Melothria pendula
Creeping cucumber (Melothria pendula) growing on temporary construction fencing at Duke. The small unripe cucumber-watermelon-looking fruits are edible, but when ripe (black/purple) they are a powerful laxative and should not be eaten. https://t.co/DOH8p4w7hL
but first what is this plant im talking about. It's MELOTHRIA PENDULA, which goes by such English names as Guadeloupe Cucumber, Creeping/Trailing/Vining Cucumber, Squirting Cucumber, Melonette and Mouse Melon. ive also seen cucamelon.
@VanceMc14 Yup!! I rarely make it 2 minutes. I have a wee infestation of Melothria pendula and morning glory right now and I’m in full panic and pull mode as the seedlings pop up. The mulch is long needle pine straw which is the typical landscape mulch here. Lays quickly from bales!
